#22 Dr Naomi Millner - ‘Environmental conservation, drones & glacial flour

June 15, 2020

My guest today is Dr Naomi Milner of the University of Bristol. Naomi is a politicial economic geographer. This means much of her work looks at how conservation and issues relating to the landscape and environment are used for both economic and political agendas. Naomi’s projects are not only really interesting to listen to, but they’re extremely important to local communities in Latin America. Part of her work involved looking at how drones have been used by these communities to fight back against states and businesses. Another area of her work that to me was absolutely mind blowing was the ‘glacial flour project’. Without giving too much away, it’s a project that shows how melting glaciers can be used for something really good!
